Hathi Gaon is the world's third and India's first elephant village, managed by the Rajasthan Forest Department. Tourists are required to pay an entry fee for the maintenance and development of the village, with domestic tourists charged Rs 50 and international tourists Rs 300.
Handed over to the forest department from the Rajasthan Tourism Department, this royal place offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Jaipur. It is an ideal destination for families with children, who can enjoy the cool breeze and lush greenery while observing elephants entertain themselves and visitors.
Designed by architects Rahul Mehrotra, Cyrus Patell, and Robert Stephens, Hathi Gaon has a natural habitation-like design that celebrates the relationship between mahouts and elephants. With around 250 elephants belonging to various owners, this village offers tourists a glimpse into the rich heritage of elephant riders, known as mahouts, who have served with the army of Jaipur in past eras. Today, they earn a living by providing tourists with the royal experience of riding elephants to give them the feeling of Maharajas.
